Haneef case won't damage relations with India: Downer Australia's bilateral relationship with India will not be affected by the Mohamed Haneef case, says Foreign Minister Alexander Downer says.

As we know, as soon as Dr Haneef was granted bail, the Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews, cancelled his visa. This means he must be placed in immigration detention, pending deportation.

Haneef is still innocent in the eyes of the law but Mr Andrews said he was satisfied the Indian-born doctor had failed the "character test". "These are two separate matters," he said.
