The Boston Red Sox made a rebuilding-type move when they traded star slugger Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on June 15, but they've played like a contender ever since. They're 22-15 after the deal, and now own the AL's second Wild Card spot after previously being out of playoff positioning.

On the even of the MLB trade deadline, Jhoan’s name came up frequently and was connected to several teams including the Red Sox. While Boston already has closer Aroldis Chapman in its bullpen, adding another arm in the bullpen to bolster it would benefit the club looking to make a legitimate postseason push.

The Mariners beat plenty of interested teams to a Eugenio Suarez trade. And apparently, the Red Sox were among those teams.
