Boeing has kicked off production of its newest freight carrier, the 777-8, the Seattle Times reported on Tuesday.

With just one drill hole, Boeing has officially begun production for the newest member of its 777X family: the 777-8 freighter.

Originally unveiled at the White House in 2022, the 777-8F is designed to carry a revenue payload of 112.3 metric tonnes. At the time of the announcement, Qatar Airways was revealed as the launch customer with a firm order for 34 aircraft and options for an additional 16, bringing the potential deal value to $20 billion.

The top Boeing shareholders are David L. Calhoun, Stanley A. Deal, Theodore Colbert III, Vanguard Group, BlackRock, and Capital Research Global Investors.

The forecast estimates the industry will require 660,000 pilots, 710,000 maintenance technicians, and 1,000,000 cabin crew members by 2044.
