CNN’s Laura Bernadini reads the Book of Tobit, which is not in the Jewish or Protestant Bibles. Her readings spark memories of her father, who died of cancer.

Tobit, the story goes, is a gravedigger in Israel who becomes blinded by bird-droppings after he sleeps in the street–an experience which is, apparently, so painful that he prays for death.

So Tobit directs his son, Tobiah, to travel to and get the money back. What Tobit and Tobias do not know is that the distant relative has a daughter, Sarah, with an unusual handicap.
