Deaths during military parachute training are unusual, but they do happen. In April, Sgt. Colin Arslanbas, a Reconnaissance Marine assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, died in a parachuting accident during the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Composite Unit Training Exercise.

Pfc. Matthew Perez died as a result of injuries sustained while training at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Johnson, Louisiana.

A paratrooper from the 82nd Airborne Division was fatally injured during recent training at a combined arms instruction facility in Louisiana, the Army said.
