The sun's light and warmth fall unequally on the northern and southern halves of the planet, so during different seasons, the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the sun, meaning the temperatures and daylight wax and wane.

Temperatures will also be much milder than last week, when temperatures hovered in the 80s. The cold front that's moving through the area will bring cooler conditions. Monday and Tuesday will have a high around 70 degrees, and the rest of the week will have highs around 74 or 75 degrees.

A high surf advisory remains in effect through 8pm from Rhode Island to the mid-coast of Maine with breakers reaching 5-10 feet in height.

KCRA Meteorologist Tamara Berg shows the warming trend expected as we officially hit the first day of fall on Sunday.

It’ll officially be fall but the weather will still have a summer-like feel. Above-average temperatures will take us into Sunday and Monday as highs return to around 90. The humidity won’t be as high as it was in the thick of summer but it’ll certainly hang on enough to make the heat index values rise to the upper 90s.
