'The GoodGuide Rating was developed using methodologies that are grounded in the sciences of informatics and health risk assessment. Products are scored from a low of 0 to a high of 10.

O’Rourke says GoodGuide measures 140 criteria in all. The other really exciting thing about GoodGuide is its mobile functionality, which allows you to do research while you’re at the store.

GoodGuide says it already has 62,000 products and companies in its database, and if users start scanning products that aren’t there yet, the company will know what to add next.

That’s why GoodGuide just released its “ Transparency Toolbar,” a Firefox and Google Chrome add-on that only pops up when users are browsing shopping websites. The toolbar is simple to use.
