Fuchsia is a little different from Android and Chrome OS in that it’s not based on Linux. Instead, it’s based on a new Google-developed kernel called Magenta.

Fuchsia OS is an open-source operating system much like Android and Chrome OS. Unlike the latter two, however, Fuchsia isn’t built on top of the Linux kernel.

A big chunk of Fuchsia-related code has been removed from the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) this week, but Google’s two operating systems are still set to have an intertwining relationship.

Fuchsia’s layered design, on the surface, seems like it’s for team organization more than anything else. It also helps to divide the code into easier-to-read pieces.

Fuchsia uses Google's Flutter as its software development kit (SDK). With it, you can currently build Chrome OS and Android apps. Fuchsia also supports Apple's Swift language.
