When someone has CSOM, they have a hole in their eardrum. When the eardrum bursts, it releases tension, so not everyone with CSOM will feel pain.

Eleven were new cases of CSOM not seen between 1993 and 1994. Of those with CSOM in the initial 2009 study, 39% had healed spontaneously.
