Washington, D.C., Council Chairman Phil Mendelson suggested he would have no issue with the Washington Commanders using the Redskins nickname again.

Trump posted on social media on Sunday that he wanted to see the Commanders and Major League Baseball's Cleveland Guardians return to Native American names that each team abandoned years ago.

I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’” the president said.
