FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - A Bell County mother and daughter performed search and rescue operations on horseback in Kerr County. Angelina and Leilani Cain have made multiple trips to the Hill Country flood zone to aid in search and rescue operations.
Kerr County officials now estimate that flood damage from the recent Central Texas disaster could exceed $200 million—and to help cover mounting recovery costs, they may raise property taxes for the first time in years.
SAN ANTONIO (KABB/WOAI) — It’s been over two weeks since the floods in Kerr County claimed hundreds of lives. Mike Richards' cabin was swept away by the Guadalupe River, but he isn’t focusing on rebuilding now.
Kerrville officials said the county will live stream the meeting on its official YouTube channel to limit crowding and accommodate those who would prefer to stay off the roads.
Some leaders said they are not prepared to raise taxes for what costs “might” be around the corner as Kerr County rebuilds from the Hill Country floods.
The Texas Legislature is scheduled to convene Monday for a special session, which now includes flood-related issues.
