India gave the go-ahead on Saturday for exports of non-basmati white rice to resume as inventories in the world's biggest exporter of the grain surge and farmers prepare to harvest a new crop in the coming weeks.

India loosened restrictions on some rice exports, a move that may ease global prices and signal a shift in domestic agricultural policies following recent national elections.

Indian government lifted the ban on the export of non-basmati white rice on Friday, about 14 months after imposing restrictions on rice

India on Friday reduced export duty on parboiled rice to 10% from 20% earlier, the government said in a notification.

India has lifted the ban on non-basmati white rice exports and set a minimum export price of $490 per tonne. The ban, in place since July 2023, was lifted to address food security needs of various countries.

In addition to parboiled rice, the government has also slashed the export duty on husked (brown) rice and rice in husk (paddy or rough) to 10%.
